Next to Normal tells the story of a mother, Diane Goodman, who struggles with bipolar disorder and the effect that her illness has on her family. This contemporary musical is an emotional powerhouse that addresses such issues as grieving a loss, ethics in modern psychiatry, and suburban life. With provocative lyrics and a thrilling score, this musical shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family’s world intact.

Easter Weekend Enchanted

Fairytale Interactive Theater

Interactive story-telling, sing-a-longs, crafts, face-painting, enactment of an Easter Bunny fairytale, theatre games, refreshments and special surprise gifts make this delightful Santa Monica Playhouse special event a wonderful Easter weekend event for kids ages 4 to 10 and their adult companions. Enchanted Fairytale interactive theatre is just the thing to give kids the chance to make new friends, improvise, make handicrafts, sing, dance, and act out the story, working with members of Actors’ Repertory Theatre, Santa Monica’s professional acting company, as they take the stage for 90 minutes of pure theatre fun. Hosted by the gaily costumed Enchanted Fairytale Players, these events only take place a few times during the year, so make your reservations right away. Space is extremely limited and reservations are a must.

Sustainable Quality Awards

The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce, the City of Santa Monica and Sustainable Works come together for the Sustainable Quality Awards (SQA). Winners are honored during a special luncheon award presentation. Each year, the SQA recognizes Santa Monica businesses that have successfully incorporated sustainable practices into their operations. The SQAs are intended to educate and inspire local businesses to adopt sustainable practices and support Santa Monica as a sustainable community. The SQA has recognized over 125 businesses since the program launched in 1995.
