Is Barron Trump Autistic? Some Dare to Ask Whether President Trump's Son Battles Autism

He's fidgety, socially awkward, doesn't speak or shake hands. Was he more than just tired on election night?

January 17, 2017

One day, he will be the first boy to live in the White House since JFK, Jr. He's fidgety, socially awkward, doesn't speak or shake hands, wobbles when he walks and engages in repetitive behaviors. Evidence is mounting that Barron Trump is autistic.

Barron might be bullied by other boys for his autism, which is why the new First Lady wants to focus on bullying, especially on social media, as her cause. To avoid putting him in the limelight, Melania Trump will continue to live in Trump Tower with Barron until June 2017, and appears to dedicate all of her time to him. If Barron has special needs, it explains Melania's otherwise baffling decision not to live in the White House as First Lady.

The fact that his father was 60 when he was born, is considered a marker for Autism--there is a connection between autism and paternal age. Barron's father Donald Trump has tweeted about the alleged connection between vaccines and autism. Trump argued about the alleged vaccine connection with Dr. Ben Carson. During a primary debate, he said:

"Autism has become an epidemic. Twenty-five years ago, 35 years ago, you look at the statistics, not even close. It has gotten totally out of control," Trump said. "I am totally in favor of vaccines. But I want smaller doses over a longer period of time. Same exact amount, but you take this little beautiful baby, and you pump-I mean, it looks just like it's meant for a horse, not for a child, and we've had so many instances, people that work for me."

He added: "Just the other day, 2 years old, 2 and a half years old, a child, a beautiful child went to have the vaccine, and came back, and a week later got a tremendous fever, got very, very sick, now is autistic." Trump did not elaborate on whose child he was talking about.

The theory is that he was speaking of his own son, Barron. It's all over social media. Otherwise, why did Trump even bring it up at a debate?

TV personality and comedienne Rosie O'Donnell wondered on Twitter whether Donald Trump's 10-year-old son Barron Trump had autism. "If so – what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic," she tweeted November 22nd. Trump and O'Donnell feuded publicly during the campaign, but they used to be friends--he even attended her wedding ten year ago. O'Donnell seems like someone who might know, and her point about raising consciousness has been embraced by some parents of autism spectrum children.

Vaccines have been blamed so often, that in California, the State had to pass a law requiring kids be vaccinated, after a polio outbreak at a public school. "Anti-Vaccers" are parents who connect Autism to vaccines. No scientific evidence has ever shown this connection, despite Trump's comments.

His parents choices have thrust Barron into the public spotlight, so now the issue must be addressed by his parents. If the story is verified, it would mean that Donald Trump did not tell the public a personal fact about his son that would have engendered public sympathy for him. He put his family's privacy above political gain, which is certainly laudable. But now that there's active speculation about Barron, it's time to come forward.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. With the May 2013 publication of the DSM-5 diagnostic manual, all autism disorders were merged into one umbrella diagnosis of ASD. Previously, they were recognized as distinct subtypes, including autistic disorder, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome.

ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art.

Autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 68 American children as on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years. Careful research shows that this increase is only partly explained by improved diagnosis and awareness. Studies also show that autism is four to five times more common among boys than girls. An estimated 1 out of 42 boys and 1 in 189 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States.

ASD affects over 3 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide. Moreover, government autism statistics suggest that prevalence rates have increased 10 to 17 percent annually in recent years. There is no established explanation for this continuing increase, although improved diagnosis and environmental influences are two reasons often considered.

To date, neither Donald nor Melania have addressed these claims publicly, nor has there been any proof that 10-year-old Barron Trump has a health condition of any sort.

Crazythat writes:

I was glad to hear Trump wants to revisit a possible connection between vaccines and autism since it does seem plausible there is a possible connection. Using his position to have it investigated is awesome. Someone needs to have the balls to take a stand against the FDA and big pharma. Even though I would love to see payment for damages and death due to vaccines, jutst recognition that they've had it wrong all along would suffice. But I feel the thing that's overlooked in th equation of increased cases is the increased usage of cell phone towers and wireless devices. Add metals in vaccines to the activity of cell towers, cell phones and wireless devices and it's a perfect storm for the epidemic we're witnessing.

zacherle writes:

He will never give in the WH. Melania will keep him safely in his school in NY.

GinaPozzi writes:

What a wonderful and worthwhile issue for Melania Knauss Trump to take up!! It is such a concerning diagnosis for many parents. Joe Kennedy did his daughter Rosemary a disservice by hiding her diagnosis. If resources were available and they were transparent about his son's disorder, they would show themselves to be vulnerable, a characteristic every American can relate to. It would be so heartwarming and refreshing.

2305 writes:

Anybody ever wonder if Donald trump might have autism? His actions to me seem like he might have slight case of it.

Lghnn writes:

I I don't know if he has Autism or not, I have a son with dyslexia but that's all he has, he goes to a school with children that have other issues. I asked him to watch Barron. I explained that he would be tired as his father gave the victory speech. I asked him to pay attention to Barron. He said to me, I understand he is tired, but mommy if you just became the president, I would be awake, smiling and happy, mommy I think something isn't alright in his brain

Pjlet2122 writes:

Trumps Son Yes as I have observed is Autistic. His mannerisms on several occasions confirmed this which is a shame. He is lucky that his family is rich for he will get the best treatments, and sheltered from a society for the most part that is ignorant of this and other sicknesses.

Cruel2AKid writes:

Samuel Alioto! Your story is Ridiculous! Why do you Aatack A Child? Is it because you don't have children/Don't Understand The Law of Sowing & Reaping? Stick to ADDRESSING THE POLITICAL ISSUES!Leave The Politician's Kid out of it!

TZip writes:

Let's also remember the circumstances under which the youngest Trump has been raised. Melania is said to be none too bright and can you even imagine Donald as a father? This other children were largely raised by their mothers having limited interaction with Donald. I don't know if Baron is on the spectrum, has some other disorder or is simply the product of a very sheltered, very spoiled, very isolated upbringing with odd parents. Let's face it, nothing about his life is normal.

Dena writes:

I can't stand Donald !! I mean, truly disgusts me. I think however, this disgusts me more. Leave this beautiful child alone. Idc if he is or isn't. I just want his privacy protected. Obviously Donald didn't think this all through. It was supposed to be for his never ending ego and yo make money. Now he is stuck. And now, there is this ugly speculation. Melania doesn't want this sh** show. Let's leave her and this child alone. I mean jeez ivanka is taking over First Lady duties. It seems at this point Melania is desperately trying to protect Barron. Can we allow her to do that??? No I realize trump woukd attack if he was armed with this info on someone else's child. He would have his friends at the Post and Enquirerer putting out Gross stories but we can all rise above what trump would do in same case can we not???

Anishet writes:

If speculation is true, then our President is teaching people to be ashamed of their children or themselves for being on the autism spectrum. Teaching people to shut it up because these are things you're not supposed to talk about. They try to teach people on the high end of the autism spectrum to 'act normal' and 'blend in'. So far, I don't think things are working out too well. We need to raise awareness and stop hiding for EVERYONE's well-being. =(

musanim writes:

There must be hundreds of people who know Barron well enough to say whether he's autistic. It doesn't seem like it would be a violation of privacy to tell the press 'no, he is not autistic' if he's not. Why hasn't one of them come forward? The fact that nobody has suggests to me that it may be true. (BTW, I'm on the autism spectrum myself.)

ReadThinkSpeak writes:

Anyone up at 3 a.m. would look tired, sleepy. But, the other thought is not only possible autism but honesty in children. Kids who don't like how their parents actually are behind the scenes, thrown in front of the entire World, look a LOT like Barron did on election night. Trapped. Mute. Stuck.

pipper1 writes:

like rapunzel trap in a tower. king yam has his own private family prison for his own disable child.

Pfffff writes:

All of you espousing your experience in the medical field as a qualification to diagnose a child based on limited exposure to his behavior is a detriment to the scientific method and critical thinking. As an SLP who has worked with numerous kids with Autism, Barron appears pretty normal to me. To diagnose autism, or any disorder, you have to not only examine behaviors and then compare them to what's considered the criteria for said disorder/difference, the context of said behaviors is very important. Showing anxiety as a ten year old boy while the world watches you is not Autism. Shame on all of you for implying so. Liberals don't care about science, most of them couldn't even define it for you. The average liberal thinks science is a collection of facts used to prove mean White Christians wrong. Congratulations America, you're officially the dumbest place on earth.

Autistic1957 writes:

Patti: When I mentioned the unique precarious position Barron is in I certainly had his parents in mind. Paraphrasing the words of Dr, Stephen Shore, Autistic board member of Autism Speaks if you have met a few Autistic kids you have met a few Autistic kids. All you are seeing is that Barron in two videos displayed some Autistic traits. Autism Involves a lot more more then then acting wierd, quirky or awkward in public. it involves sensory sensitivities, repetitive behaviors both physical and mental and oversimplifying things different thinking . Bieng Autistic is a 24/7 deal . What people see is a brief snapshot of Barron's outward behaviors. There are other conditions that share many Autistic traits and everybody has a few Autistic traits.

Patti writes:

Anyone who known met several kids in various places on the autistic spectrum can tell that BT is autistic. It doesn't take a degree in medicine to see that. It's the degree or level of autism that is not detectable in BT. What I don't understand is why the kid's parents are denying it instead of using this as an opportunity to raise awareness and educate. I also don't understand why DT would force the kid into the public eye considering that people who don't understand autism are often mean and cruel to those who are affected. (I wonder if he's ever heard of putting your kids emotionaland mental health ahead of one's ego?)

Autistic1957 writes:

I have been autistic for almost 60 years and I can not tell from a few videos if Barron is Autistic. All you amateur diagnosticians somehow think you know. Did it ever occur to you that acting weird and fidgety and not talkative in public is a perfectly normal reaction for a 10 year old in the situation he has been forced to endure?. You are all taking weak circumstantial evidence and coming to the conclusion you want. A ten year old especially a ten year old in the unique precarious position Barron is in deserves his privacy so he can be the 10 year old he is. Leave the boy alone!!

Bravo writes:

To me Barron's mother Melania doesn't look normal either.

Timberbrook writes:

Don't run for president of the United States, and win if you don't want every aspect of your life exposed. He's not a private citizen now. Neither is his family. He put himself and his family out there in the most public way possible. There's no shame in having an autistic child. Of he is autistic and they are denying or hiding it, it seems they are ashamed. Which is very sad. They could possibly do great good by going public. But like everything, they lie, deceive, hide. Melania didn't ask for this, and I'm sure she'd prefer to remain a private citizen. But quite honestly, if Donald can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

akaCB writes:

Barron's school, Columbia Grammer and Prep, offers one-on-one support to students with learning challenges and intensive long–term support and remediation. I'm really surprised I haven't seen anyone else pick up on this.

JDrew writes:

IMO, the boy is autistic and his parents are lying and denying, the boy is affected by some other type of disorder, the boy is traumatized from some kind of abuse, or the boy is autistic and his parents call it something other than autism. Whatever the case, the Trumps need to take this as an opportunity to educate the general public about whatever disorder the boy has. Cruelty sometimes results from ignorance, and the more people know, the less likely they are to be cruel.

JParrish writes:

I am a medical professionall and Barron Trump is on the autistic spectrum, ticks every box. It's not bullying, just reality.

ROSIE133 writes:

Another example of the viagra V birth control hypocrisy. Men/sexual predators like Drumph with mail order brides. To quote RBG he's a faker. His His swimmers are too. GUESS YOU CAN'T BUY EVERYTHING DUCKY! LUCKY FOR THE WORLD YOU CAN'T HAVE ANYMORE OFFSPRING. IF YOUR NOT CONVINCED BY NOW..... AND EVERYONE KNOWS. HA

nanci00 writes:

All 3 Trump sons are very effeminate and yes, the youngest acts very weird. Not a boy's boy in anyone's book. SAD!

Bridgett writes:

It is heartbreaking to see how people are carrying on about that handsome young man Barron Trump. It is not our place to judge anyone. Whatever the situation is with Barron I pray he have a great successful life, for he do not deserve nothing but kindness from any and every one. I agree Rosie Odonnell was out of place for asking in public regarding Little Baron Trump. In my eyes he is a fine young, smart, intelligent young man , who will grow up and be very successful. Back off with negative comments and show more respect for our soon to be first family.

Angel1444 writes:

As a mother with a child with Autism I see the same traits in my Daughter as Barron Trump. I'm telling you my story matches up with Donald Trump my Daughter was filled with 5 injections at 15,mos and had a major siezure 20 min later she was never the same after that but was diagnosed with Autism at three. I pray if Trumps Son is Autistic that he mother doesn't threatened to sue people for bulling but brings awareness and become a advocate for Autism....

BlessedMommy88 writes:

In response to WoW: I lost five babies before I received MY MIRACLE! She's the most BEAUTIFUL Child, Inside & Out. Not a day goes by I'm not amazed at what she can do, and how smart she is. You clearly don't know how long the Spectrum runs! God Loves those that have a heart for him, and BLESSES US DOUBLY 🙏🏻 He doesn't punish anyone with an ASD, it truly is a GIFT😍 And it takes the most special & amazing parents or raise ANY child with ANY special need, he only chooses THE BEST❤️ Our Children are, DIFFERENT NOT LESS!!!!! I voted for Trump, because I knew where he and his wife stood on this issue! I will be praying for you to open your eyes. NOTHING CAN STOP OUR BABIES FROM DOING, AND BECOMING ANYTHING THEY WANT TOO!!!!! #AutismSpeaks #SPD #RaiseAwareness #TeachThemToDreamBig

Marji writes:

Interesting in that Trump and Melania slowed down tha vaccine process.

RachelS writes:

Rosie O'D. was totally out of line. However, watching that child on TV, there is something definitely going on with him, and autism is a likely explanation. His father, who can't keep from tweeting on anything and everything, has been completely silent on these rumours. Weird. Why so many cases now? No, not vaccines, not sonograms (the man who first claimed that vaccine connection did so for personal gain and has since recanted and all other attempts to prove it have failed). The spectrum has been greatly enlarged, so many, many more kids fall into the category. Also, you see more because they used to be hidden away. There are many studies which show some causes which no one wants to talk about, but could be addressed in many cases, such as parental influence and relationship to the child. God forbid it be psychological, everyone wants a medical explanation that absolves them of any responsibility.

Sammymom writes:

In response to Wow's comment about karma. Yikes! Do u really believe autism is bad karma for Trump? I'm mom to 19 y/o son with significant cognitive and speech disabilities. He also was born with a heart defect and had heart transplant. According to your opinion, I just might be a really horrible person to have been punished with my son. NO. Just the opposite. I have received much greater blessings than anyone could imagine. DO NOT call disabilities punishment - or karma. Do not call disabled people burdens.

Wow writes:

Interesting how he makes fun of people and then ends up with autistic child. Karma comes in handy.

TJ92673 writes:

What kind of ethics did you learn in J school? Since when. Is it okay to write about children? Did we focus on Chelsea Clinton or Obama's kids? It would appear journalistic integrity is dead.

TK123 writes:

I am the mother of a 25 year old man with autism. To discuss publicly whether or not this little boy has autism is disgraceful and none of our business. The Trumps do not have to disclose anything to anyone. He is their little boy and they will do what they feel is right for him - just like the rest of us do for our own children whether they have autism or not. Leave the boy alone. Go find something else to write about.

Nocke writes:

It is understandable that Barron wishes to complete the school year at his school. In regard to the autism, would his school be one that specializes in Autism or other similar learning disorders? The Obamas are staying in Washington for their child. Caring parents make difficult decisions about career and children all the time.

Totteach writes:

If he cared so much about his son and his condition why run in the first place? He put his family in the limelight for his own personal , narcissistic gain. He is not to be commended for that!

Jane5918 writes:

Much is said here about the tragedy of autism. But why the sudden increase in cases? There is a theory that sonograms may be to blame. The early 90's brought in-vitro surgeries to correct some types of defects. To do this they had to increase the sonogram power by 8x. Now these more powerful sonograms are required for all expectant mothers. The sonogram can heat up the brain and cause brain damage. The cdc is currently conducting a study to investigate this. Meanwhile we are sonogramming our unborn babies and possibly damaging their brains.

maurinemeleck writes:

In actuality, age of a parent has never been proved as a link to autism. Whether the son has ASD or not is besides the point. Mr. Trump knows we have ahuge autism epidemic. He knows not all vaccines are safe for all childen and that one size does not fit all. He knows therem are many vaccine injuries. There are dozens of studies showing a link between autism and vaccines. You just won't see them in the lying mainstream media. Let's hope Trump jusps on the chance to end mandated vaccines and allows every person vaccine exemptions. Maurine Meleck

PBAutism writes:

It is possible Barron Trump is on ther Autism Spectrum. Without a thorough evaluation we are speculating. However a recently issued patent entitled Methods of treatment for Autism assigned to Dr Kerry Scott Lane MD of Palm Beach Autism Institute has evidence that a blood/urine test can identify the metabolic abnormalities in Autism and prescribes a therapeutic approach based on same. Glutathione is required to metabolize the harmful metals in vaccines and it is decreased in Autism and most of it is oxixized,a dangerous condition. This causes a cascade of metabolic anomalies that can be corrected. Google Autism Gliotoxin to see a power point. YouTube Autism Acetaminophen for the lecture. ACETAMINOPHEN is the trigger for autism when given in the peri-vaccination period as an antipyretic. The Autism Epidemic began in the early 1980s when Tylenol replaced aspirin for fevers in children. Avoid acetaminophen...Space out vaccines, avoid vaccines with metal adjuvants. NO TYLENOL..

Personette writes:

The Trumps allowed their son to be on national TV, so they left it to the public to make its own observations and conclusions. That said, they are in the best possible place to assure Barron will receive the optimal treatment and a exceptional care through his life, where the average family will struggle with worry for their autistic children in adulthood. Whether or not the child is or is not affected, has no bearing on the fact that Trump has himself behaved without filters when commenting on the looks and behaviors of others. Let's focus on him and leave the child alone. His dad in the Oval Office should be our primary concern.

stormyseaward writes:

ya know, it is odd that trump is pushing so hard to bring back coal jobs. 'y family is in texas and they're within 30 miles of two of the biggest mercury polluting coal plants in the country. the autism rate in the surrounding communities is something like 12 times the national average. it never fails to amaze me how awful some environmental conditions in texas are - and yet, nothing is done about it. there is a scientifically studied link between mercury exposure and autism - so it would be nice if, in his concern, regardless of barron''s status, trump would leave efforts to curb coal use in place.

stormyseaward writes:

i go to a neuropsychiatrist that i have been going to for years for my adhd medication (adderall - a lot of adderall, i've been on it since i was, like, 10). anyway, he was originally just a psychiatrist and went back to further specialize in child and adolscent neurology because his first grandson was diagnosed as autistic. he swears his grandson was fine until vaccines. i always ask people whose have an autistic child if they think that vaccines had something to do with it and i have yet to meet somebody who said 'vaccines had nothing to do with their child's autism. i thought it was odd for trump to jump on that issue and when i saw barron on election night, my initial thought was that he was on the spectrum. even through my rage and sadness, his mannerisms and behavior stood out. i hope trump does raise awareness.

Jhohn writes:

Massive vaccination can overwhelm the young child's immune response resulting in the breakdown of the blood brain barrier which then allow the antigen (vaccine) and its component to enter the brain. The end result is microglial activation and neuroinflammation followed by regressive autism.

Maestro writes:

If Barron suffers from autism the First Family should not be ashamed or attempt to hide it from the public. The Trumps should help educate the public and bring attention to helping diagnose and treat autism. Awareness and sensitivity are needed. Politically it would also humanize the ultra-rich family and gain them some sympathy regarding their decisions with their boy. The Kennedy family hid away a disabled child. (Rosemary Kennedy, JFK's sister) It would be optimistic to think we might be more honest five decades later, but probably not. The fact that the Trump family has neither confirmed nor denied the rumor speaks volumes. It's sad because they are ignoring an opportunity that could benefit many people.

Joyo66 writes:

If Barron does have autism, it speaks volumes about the level of sliminess of Trump for mocking the disabled. It is the business of the American taxpayers since the parents decided to make Trump Tower White House 2 citing not wanting to uproot the kid. Their choices are not something we should pay for. If it is true the boy has autism, it is just one more deception by Trump

Jazmin writes:

Presskh writes:

From my observations of her over the years, Rosie O'Donnell obviously suffers from Uglism, as well as Fatism and Foul Mouthism. It's disgusting how the radical left, many of whom are gross and weird looking (think Rosie and Michael Moore), as well as lacking any type of social gentility or common courtesy, have the gall to scrutinize and poke fun at a 10 year old boy who has hurt no one.

Reissd writes:

It's inappropriate to speculate about a child''a disability. Barron Trump is not a toy, not a public figure, and unless the Trump family decides to say something about his private life, he deserves to have it respected. This article: A. Speculates on a child'S disability with no good evidence. B. Violates a child'S privacy. This is just wrong.

Katzhowse writes:

If he is or isn't, it's no ones business but Mr. and Mrs. Trump..

LindaRBaniewicz writes:

Autism has not affected my family, but there are too many cases around me, in the Boston area, to simplyo be ignored. Many young families all around me, are having children that have aurisn. I'd certainly say it's an epidemic, and have wondered also, when it's real root causes were going to be identified as it seems to be racing past ADD, the epidemuc from past years ago.n I don't see any of the Autism cases being related to the age of the children's parents. If, resultant of what I have observed, in just my own neighborhood, I would bet a dollar to donuts that it has nothing to do with the parents age.
