Car Kills A Woman Crossing Lincoln Blvd Near Hill Street Just After 6 am Thursday

3/16/17--The City of Santa Monica reports a fatality collision which closed Lincoln Blvd and Hill Street after 7 am Thursday.

At 6:15 a.m., the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) says, it responded to a radio call for service regarding a traffic collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Lincoln Blvd and Hill Street. The woman was said to be a local grandmother.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered a pedestrian in the roadway with significant injuries. The involved vehicle along with the driver were on scene when officers arrived. Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics responded and treated the pedestrian at the scene. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for treatment to her injuries," said Saul Rodriquez, SMPD spokesman

"The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

SMPD's Major Accident Response Team responded to the collision to conduct an investigation.

The woman who was hit was crossing Lincoln, in the crosswalk at Lincoln Blvd and Hill Street. The vehicle was traveling northbound along Lincoln Blvd and struck the pedestrian.

"The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation and there have been no preliminary indications the driver was impaired," Rodriguez said.

"Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital in the late morning," added Rodriguez.

Lincoln Blvd is the main artery southbound connecting Santa Monica to Venice, Marina Del Rey, Westchester and the Los Angeles International Airport.

The City is entertaining a proposal to permanently cutoff the traffic on Lincoln blvd, to discourage the use of cars. Automobile related businesses along the route would be closed permanently.
