SMHM Kiwanis Grant July 2016.

The annual music and high school achievement scholarship ceremonies will be held next week in Santa Monica. These events are open to the public. The Music Scholarship Awards and Performances are on Wednesday, May 31 at 5PM, and the High School Scholarship Awards are on Thursday, June 1 from 6PM.

Refreshments will be served. Each year the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica distributes over $40,000 in scholarships to area high school students and Santa Monica College students for achievement in academics and community service, and to middle and high school musicians who have placed in their musical category in the Kiwanis annual music competition.

The SMC and high school student scholarship awardees have all earned high marks, are going on to higher education (or continuing education in the case of SMC) and have financial constraints. The Music Scholarship Awards event includes performances by the winners of the competition.

The Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica has been providing academic scholarships to area youth for 94 years and music awards for 68 years. "Dick Wagnon, longtime member of the Kiwanis Club and beloved member of the Santa Monica student music community, inspired the music awards and they are carried on in his memory annually" says Current Kiwanis President Tony Antich. The awards range from $250 to $3000 each. The Music Scholarship Awards and Performances are on Wednesday, May 31 at the Bay Woman's Club on 4th at Wilshire at 5PM to 7PM. High School Scholarship Awards are on Thursday, June 1 at the Thelma Terry Building at Virginia Park on Pico and Cloverfield from 6PM.

Since 1922 the Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica has been the most active service organization in Santa Monica; each year the club awards over $120,000 to our community in the form of grants, scholarships and sponsorships. Regular club lunch meetings are the first three

Wednesdays of the month from 12PM to 1:30PM. To join us or to donate to Kiwanis Charities, please visit our website, http://www.KiwanisClubSM.org, or follow us on Facebook at kiwanisclubsm.org - Contact: Jessica Handy 424 268 0539
