A woman in Palm Desert, California claims to have purchased Chicken of the Sea White Albacore Tuna in water, containing glass shards. We have reached out to the company for comment.

The unnamed consumer says she purchased a package of six cans at the local Costco in the Palm Springs area.

Chicken of the Sea is a provider of packaged seafood, formerly US-owned and now owned by the Thai Union Group of in Samut Sakhon, Thailand. The brand sells tuna, salmon, clams, crab, shrimp, mackerel, oysters, kipper snacks and sardines in cans, pouches, and cups, under the brand names "Chicken of the Sea", "Van Camps", "Genova", "Pacific Pearl", and "Ace of Diamonds."

As a subsidiary, its divisional headquarters is in San Diego, California. The company was founded in 1914 when Frank Van Camp and his son bought the California Tuna Canning Company and changed its name to the Van Camp Seafood Company. The phrase "Chicken of the Sea", first devised as a way to describe the taste, was so successful that soon it also became the company name.
