    Update 8pm: power has been restored to affected areas of Santa Monica. A morning transformer explosion dimmed lights in Santa Monica North of California Avenue and East of 11th Street, residents reported. It occurred on New Years Day, a National holiday. Southern California Edison tweeted no statement concerning the outage. Calls to a recorded line said the power would be restored by Tuesday at 9 pm.
