Police Officers Assaulted

Santa Monica Police report that some their officers were kicked by an allegedly drunk woman. They say it happened on March 29 on 5th Street and Wilshire Blvd at 11 at night while the officers were investigating a hit and run traffic accident there. The officers saw two women walking eastbound on the north sidewalk of Wilshire Blvd. and they noticed one of the women was stumbling. Authorities say they called a taxi for the two women because they were concerned for their safety, as bothh appeared to be intoxicated. While waiting for the cab, they heard officers patrolling 3rd Street promenade broadcast information over the police radio about two women who fled form the Monsoon Restaurant without paying their bill. The description matched the two intoxicated women. When questioned about the incident, the woman who had stumbled, Evonne Clark of the Valley Village, became belligerent and clenched her fists. Lawmen report that as officers tried to restrain the woman, she kicked several of them and pulled one officer’s hair. Clark was eventually taken into custody and booked at the Santa Monica Jail for assault on a police officer, public intoxication, and resisting arrest.

One-Year Wedding Anniversary Celebration Turns Violent

Santa Monica Police were called to Lot 1 North (1550 PCH), regarding a domestic battery in progress on March 30 at 10:50 at night. Lawmen report that when the officers arrived, they separated the people involved who were married toone another. Authorities say several witnesses came forward and told the officers they saw the suspect William Calahan strike the victim, his wife, at least three times on the back of the head, and then push her down to the ground. Authorities say Calahan admitted he had been drinking and claimed he was only yelling at his wife, but lawmen report the injuries on her proved otherwise. Callahan was taken into custody. Authorities say his wife told the officers that they were out celebrating their one year wedding anniversary.

Unsafe Lane Change Lands Suspected Drug Dealers in Jail

Santa Monica Police say their Officers traveling on Lincoln Blvd saw a driver make an unsafe lane change from the southbound #2 lane to the southbound #1 lane, which caused another driver to brake suddenly. It happened on March 25 at approximately 9:35pm. Lawmen report the officers pulled over the car, which they say had three people inside, and immediately noticed the left rear passenger seat was filled with what appeared to be large packages of narcotics. They say the seat back was in the down position, so the officers were able to see there were several more packages inside the trunk. Authorities say after removing the driver and his two passengers from the car, a police K-9 unit searched the car and confirmed the packages indeed contained narcotics. It was later determined the packages contained marijuana. Lawmen report during questioning, the driver and his passengers admitted they just bought the marijuana from someone in a truck and that he was heading home, but couldn’t find the on-ramp for the I-10 freeway. All three suspects, Ricardo Gonzalez of Encino, Doan Engel of Encino and Tamra Hathaway of St. Paul Minnesota were taken into custody and their car was impounded, along with the marijuana. Each one of the three was given a 100,000-dollar bond.

Man Killed in the Hollywood Area

The Los Angeles Police Department need your help to find out who killed a 38-year-old black man outside of a night club in Hollywood. They say it happened on March 30 around 1:58 a.m. Lawmen report Hollywood officers responded to a radio call of a “shooting” at Las Palmas Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. They say when officers arrived they saw the victim on the ground in the street near a black Dodge Charger. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died a short time later from his injuries. The name of the victim has not been released yet, pending notification to next of kin. The suspects are described as 3 to 4 black men driving a black four door sedan and that the car was last seen traveling southbound on Las Palmas Avenue. Detectives believe that the altercation was gang related. Anyone with information is urged to contact West Bureau Homicide Detectives at (213) 382-9470.
