EMERITUS COLLEGE 40TH ANNIVERSARY ART EXHIBITION

OPENING RECEPTION MAY 12

The Santa Monica College Emeritus College Art Gallery is pleased to present its 40th Anniversary Art Exhibition from May 12 through June 16. The exhibit includes a Silent Benefit to support classes and programs at Emeritus College.

The opening reception for the exhibit and the start of bidding for the Silent Benefit will be from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, in the Emeritus College Art Gallery, located at 1227 Second St., Santa Monica. Parking is available next door in Santa Monica Public Parking Structure No. 2.

The opening reception will also feature refreshments, Ikebana arrangement by Tory Lowitz, and a pictorial review of the history of Emeritus College.

The salon-style group exhibition will present works created by Emeritus College student and faculty artists, as well as a selection of guest professional artists, including Charles Arnoldi, Steven Bankhead, Merwin Belin, Jesse Benson, Judy Benson, Olivia Booth, Carla Danes, Erwin Glaub, John Greco, Scott Greiger, Jacob Melchi, Renee Petropoulos, Catherine Tirr, and Erin Watson.

All items on exhibit have been donated to the Silent Benefit, and may be previewed at the 40th Anniversary Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 4, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 5-8. Bids will be accepted in the gallery May 12-22, and all items may be picked up at the exhibit closing June 16.

Donations to date include a Renee Petropoulos collage, Christine Metoyer photograph, Scott Greiger tote bag, paintings by John Alcantara and Catherine Tirr, antique figurines, jewelry, furniture, books, textiles, and more! Events tickets have also been contributed, as well as services in areas such as psychotherapy, home organizing, web design, and digital printing. An ongoing list of donations will be available in the gallery starting May 12.

Emeritus College was founded by SMC in 1975 to serve the lifelong learning interests of older adults. Today, the widely praised program offers more than 120 free classes and special programs, and serves over 3,000 students each year.
