Melania Trump got Rickrolled at the RNC Monday: Glenn Beck

Suggests deliberate sabotage was behind her copied words last night.

" Donald Trump will never, ever, give up. And, most importantly, he will never, ever, let you down. Donald is, and always has been, an amazing leader." Melania Trump, addressing the RNC, July 18, 2016

Glenn Beck is a vocal voice behind the Never Trump movement. He wanted "Ted Cruz," a "true conservative, to be the Republican nominee. But he has just put forward an intriguing theory to explain how Michelle Obama's words ended up in Melania Trump's mouth: She was sabotaged, even "Rickrolled."

Glenn says that someone who wanted to embarrass the Trump's, deliberately copied those words into Melania's speech, to make the elegant former model look stupid on National Television.

It is the only explanation that makes sense, Beck says.

The one explanation that makes no sense, says Beck, is that Melania wrote the speech herself, and just happened to use Michelle's words. "That would be like lightning striking 15 times in the same place," he said. "it is the only explanation that makes no sense."

Melania, wife of Republican nominee Donald Trump, delivered a speech last night where 58 words, about 90 seconds of onscreen time, was borrowed directly from Michelle's Obama's 2008 convention speech.

"Donald Trump will never give you up. He will never let you down," said Melania late in the speech. This is a direct quote from the Rick Astley song. Beck postulates that this is the signature of the prankster, to let us know that Melania has been

Many on Twitter have noticed that Melani was Rick rolled. For example, Matt blaze tweeted: "line in M. Trump's speech seems almost like a playful signal that the plagiarism was some speechwriter's deliberate sabotage."

Update: A Trump Campaign staffer has taken responsibility for the copied Obama paragraphs. Meredith McIver offered her resignation, which the Trump campaign refused, and issued the following statement:

"TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

"My name is Meredith McIver and I’m an in-house staff writer at the Trump Organization. I am also a longtime friend and admirer of the Trump family.

"In working with Melania Trump on her recent First Lady speech, we discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the American people. A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speeches. This was my mistake, and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps, as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant.

"Yesterday, I offered my resignation to Mr. Trump and the Trump family, but they rejected it. Mr. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and that we learn and grow from these experiences.

"I asked to put out this statement because I did not like seeing the way this was distracting from Mr. Trump’s historic campaign for president and Melania’s beautiful message and presentation.

"I apologize for the confusion and hysteria my mistake has caused. Today, more than ever, I am honored to work for such a great family. I personally admire the way Mr. Trump has handled this situation and I am grateful for his understanding.

"Sincerely,

"Meredith McIver"

Rickrolling, alternatively rick-rolling, is a prank and an Internet meme involving an unexpected appearance of the music video for the 1987 Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up". The meme is a type of bait and switch using a disguised hyperlink. Those led to the music video believing that they were accessing some unrelated material are said to have been rickrolled.

The trend has extended to disruptive or humorous appearances of the song in other situations, such as a live appearance of Astley himself in the 2008 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
