Two people were killed and at least 16 others wounded in a shooting early Monday morning at the Club Blu in Fort Myers, Florida. A 14-year-old and a high school basketball star lost their lives as the nightclub hosted a late night teen event called the "Swimsuit Glow Party."

Two other locations were involved in the incident, and the police have detained three people for questioning.

Police were first called to Club Blu at 12:30 a.m. on Monday. They arrived to find several wounded victims lying in the parking lot. One witness reported that a man started yelling and firing at cars and people in the parking area for unknown reasons, then fled the scene with two accomplices in a black SUV. Blu management said they had eight security guards on site, but the attack occurred to quickly for intervention. One of the guards was wounded.

The victims were transported to local hospitals, while the police proceeded to a residential neighborhood on Parkway Street about five blocks away, where the gunman was shooting at homes and vehicles from his vehicle. One person suffered minor injuries at that address.

Three persons of interest were later detained at a building on Ortiz Avenue.

Police say they are still trying to determine a motive for the gunfire, and also looking for others who may have been involved.

This shooting occurs just 43 days after a gunman killed 49 people and wounded more than 50 others at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida., just 150 miles away. That June 12 massacre was the worst mass shooting by a single assailant in United States history. It stunned the country and has increased public outcry demanding gun control from Congress. The attacker, Omar Mateen, had sworn allegiance to the Islamic State.
