Car Flies off 405 Freeway Near Roscoe, Crashes into Homeless Camp

2 men injured, third man killed as Sedan lands on 3 men

A blue 2002 Honda Accord sedan flew off the 405 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley near the Roscoe offramp, and landed on a homeless encampment, the CHP said. The incident happened at about 6:15 pm PST on Tuesday evening, November 29th. Haskell Avenue was closed near the accident site as an investigation proceeded.

Three patients were transported to a hospital -- two in serious-to-critical condition. The other person was in fair condition, with injuries that were described as non-life threatening.

The identity of the victims was not immediately known. "Homeless people present certain difficulties to work with. They don't always have identification," said Lt. Kenneth Galbraith of the CHP.

The 66 year old driver of Blue sedan, suffered only minor injuries. He has not been charged at this time, as the casue of the accident is under investigation.

It's unknown how many people live in this camp, which is on the side of the 405. "You're definitely rolling the dice if you're living on the side of the road like this," said Galbraith. "It's unsafe because cars do come off the road, and this time, their luck ran out."

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering massive crush injuries, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
