"Bomber Robber" Who Hit "Curated Los Angeles" on Montana Still at Large

The suspect reportedly robbed a jewelry store on Montana Wednesday, then crashed his car and took off on foot.

2/28 Wednesday evening, Santa Monica Police were searching for a suspect at 18th and Georgina. A man claiming to have a bomb robbed a jewelry store on Montana.

He then crashed into another vehicle in the 300 block of 18th street, then dropped the "explosive device" next to his SUV and took off on foot. SMPD's K9 and SWAT Teams were called in to look for the man, but ultimately did not find him

At 5:36 p.m. police say they responded to a radio call re "Suspicious Circumstances" at 'Curated Los Angeles', a jewelry store. Officers arrived at the 1600 Montana Avenue address, where store employees said a male suspect had entered the store holding a suspicious device. He said he had a bomb, so store employees gave him merchandise.

The suspect began to argue with the employee and fled the store with the suspicious device. The suspect dropped the merchandise in the store as he fled.

He got into an SUV and fled north on 15th Street striking several parked cars along the way. The car came to rest after striking a parked car at the 300 block of 15th Street. He got out of the SUV and fled the area on foot north into the residential area.

As for the bomb: The first SMPD officer on site checked the vehicle and noticed a suspicious device on the ground next to the driver's side of the car. A perimeter was established around the immediate area. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene for the suspicious device. The device was detonated by the bomb squad and remains under investigation for its contents."

The suspect remains outstanding following an extensive search. The suspect is described as a Hispanic or Caucasian male, 30 years old, 5'9" tall, last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark colored shorts.
