Smokey Monica: Wind changes direction, blowing smoke into town and WLA

Malibu fires drop smoke and ash well beyond Malibu

The wind changed direction and suddenly Santa Monica is filled with smoke. It is difficult to capture in Photos but here are a few which show the haze and the yellow sunlight.

SMPD Alert: To accommodate anyone from out of Santa Monica, all enforcement of "Preferential Parking Zones" will be suspended until further notice.

California Statewide Fire Summary 11/10 9 am

Over 5,000 firefighters covering 690 fire engines, 79 dozers, 101 hand crews, 31 water tenders, 23 helicopters and numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state are battling 3 large wildfires in California. These wind-driven fires have burned more than 174,531 acres and destroyed thousands of structures. There have been over 253,000 individuals evacuated.

There continues to be a high risk of significant fires due to gusty N-NE offshore winds and low relative humidity Saturday night through Monday morning from the Western Cascade-Sierra Slopes to the Coast causing Red Flag Warnings. Low humidity's and poor overnight recovery will continue into Monday with temperatures being 5-10 degrees above seasonal normal's. Northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph will surface across the mountains and below the canyons and passes of Southern California Sunday morning through Tuesday morning. Widespread single digit humidity along with very poor humidity recovery at night will continue through the end of next week.

With these extreme fire conditions, don't wait to evacuate! Prepare now and GO! early. If you see fire approaching, don't wait to be told to leave. To learn more on preparing to evacuate, click here. En Español, clic aqui.
