No Joke: School's Out for Summer Coronavirus Updates

"The surge is coming," Newsom warned, adding that 27,000 hospital beds needed by mid-May.

Today is April 1, school is out for the rest of the year, and that's not an April fools day joke.

Gov. Gavin Newsom gave his daily update at today's press conference. 8,155 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in CA. 1,855 people are hospitalized; the number has tripled in six days.

Total deaths in California now stand at 774, a 16.4 per cent increase. That's quadrupled in six days. "The surge is coming," Newsom warned, adding that 27,000 hospital beds needed by mid-May.

"California is preparing with people and PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment). 35.4 million masks have been distributed so far in California.

Newsom said we should not bring kids back to school this year. We need to increase at-home class time, and distance learning.

The Federal Government has waived licensing and other requirements for food distribution.

GM is now producing masks through a factory in Warren, Ohio, while 3M Corporation is producing them in Rhode Island.

The Superintendent of Public Instruction has said that school will not reconvene this academic year. This is a recommendation, which is not binding on individual districts. SMMUSD has announced they will not reconvene this year.
