Gov. Newsom Closes All California Beaches and State Parks to Promote Social Distancing

Appalled by the beach crowds last weekend, Gov. says he is "acting to save lives."

In the next few days, inside sources say, California Gov. Gavin Newsom will close all California State Beaches, due to Covid-19. This according to a source with access to the Governor's office, by way of Bill Melugin, a reporter at FoxLA.

Gov. Gavin Newsom called images of packed California beaches from over the weekend "an example of what not to do," during his daily media briefing Monday.

The lockdown was initially intended to not overwhelm the health care system. Outside of New York City, hospitals are quite empty, and have few patients. In California, Covid-19 has killed less than 2000 people in a population of 40,000,000, and the infection rate is just .07% statewide.

The warm weather drew crowds of people to Southern California beaches. Some did not follow the social distancing guidelines introduced by officials who have partially reopened some beaches, but with calls for no group gatherings.

"Those images are an example of what not to do," Governor Gavin Newsom says of nationally circulated images of packed California beaches.

Newsom said at the time that California is weeks away from making "measurable and meaningful" changes to stay at home order.
