LAPD Arrests 20 Year Old Who Pointed Laser Pointer at Police Helicopter

"Last night, Officers were on patrol on Santa Monica Blvd when they were struck in the eyes by high powered lasers...."

A 20 year old man in West Hollywood was arrested after pointing his green laser pointer at police, including patrol cars and a vehicle. The arrest was announced on Twitter, by the LAPD's Hollywood division.

"Last night, Officers were on patrol on Santa Monica Blvd when they were struck in the eyes several times by a high-power green laser. Officers requested an air unit to help canvas for the suspect. Upon flying into the area, our air unit was immediately struck with the laser. ... The air unit was able to identify the apartment where the laser was coming from and directed units on the ground to it. Officers made contact with the suspect inside the apartment, who was in possession of the laser."

"The 20 year-old suspect was arrested for Malicious Discharge of a Laser at an Aircraft & Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Police Officer, both felonies."

""Green wavelengths are more easily absorbed and therefore cause more damage to the retina compared to red wavelengths of equivalent powers." If you use a green laser of high enough output, you'll create a permanent hole in someone's retina!" Tweeted Steve Surfaco.
