Water Main Break in Pacific Palisades Sunday Night Floods Sunset Blvd North of El Medio

Traffic delays and water outages will continue into Monday, authorities warn.

A water main break in Pacific Palisades Sunday night after 9 pm, flooded an apartment building's parking garage in Pacific Palisades. The breach on Sunset Blvd was centered across the street from Palisades Charter High School, from El Medio Drive to Marquez Avenue. LA County Lifeguards walked from car to car through waste deep water in the underground car park, searching the vehicles to ensure no one had been trapped there.

Local residents were without water above Sunset between El Medio and Marquez. Residents would probably lack water into the week, authorities said.

While authorities did not immediately release the cause of the breach, main water lines on Sunset Blvd and other parts of the Westside, are in excess of one hundred years old. Breaches are not uncommon. A water main breach on Sunset Blvd in the summer of 2014, flooded UCLA, causing the evacuation of large parts of the campus.

The LA Fire Dept reported that one person had to be rescued. Authorities warn to avoid the area. There will probably be traffic delays in the Palisades Monday morning. They hoped to shut off the water, but as of 10:30 pm were unable to shut it off.
