Arrest in 2016 Home Invasion Roberries

Vacho Shahen, 32, of Las Vegas, is suspected in a 2016 shooting on Adelaide

Santa Monica police Wednesday identified a suspect in a 2016 attempted murder and three Southland home-invasion robberies, and said the man is expected to face extradition from Philadelphia, where he is being held in federal custody on an unrelated case.

Vacho Shahen, 32, of Las Vegas, is suspected in a shooting that occurred the morning of Aug. 28, 2016, at a home in the 600 block of Adelaide Drive, wrote Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez. A Santa Monica resident was shot in the chest during what police described as a failed robbery attempt, in a crime that shocked Santa Monica at the time.

The homeowner was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where he survived the shooting.

"During the investigation, SMPD detectives and (a) forensics unit discovered DNA evidence at the scene, which later linked Shahen to three previous home-invasion robberies in Beverly Hills and Downey," he said. "There is no link between the victims in any of the incidents."

Shahen is expected to face charges in the Southland including attempted murder, robbery and burglary, pending extradition from Pennsylvania, police said.

Details of Shahen's unrelated case in Philadelphia were not immediately released.
