    Clark County firefighters knocked down a fire on Monday afternoon at Rumor Hotel, a boutique hotel located at at 455 E. Harmon Ave. "Run for your lives!" maids shouted in Spanish, as they ran down the hallways, knocking on doors. Hotel guests were evacuated and no one was injured. Firemen said the blaze had been extinguished at 1:56 p.m. One of our reporters coincidentally was a hotel guest.     In a grisly case of overkill, the District Attorney's office obtained a guilty-plea to a murder from a man already on death row. James Robert Scott, 52, admitted to the 1982 murder of Vivian Johnson at her residence in the 3900 block of Welland Avenue in South Los Angeles. Johnson, 40, was found strangled to death in her home. Scott's admission followed the discovery in 2014 that DNA evidence at the scene of Johnson's death linked him to the crime. He was immediately sentenced to life in prison...

    The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office obtained a conviction and eight-year sentence today for a man accused of falsely obtaining title to properties at auction. Lamar Adams, 46, pleaded guilty to one count each of grand theft, identity theft, and procuring and offering a false and forged instrument.     California's latest massive fire, this one in the Cajon pass, has forced the evacuation this afternoon of the town of Wrightwood.
