Homicide Suspect convicted

On November 27, 2013, Francisco Leon-Urbalexo of Sonora, Mexico, plead guilty to one count of attempted, second-degree murder for the stabbing of Jarred Hill of Los Angeles. Urbalexo was sentenced to nine years in State Prison. Upon his release from prison, he will be released to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for deportation back to Mexico.

The stabbing took place at the intersection of 4th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard on August 13, 2012, at approximately 6:00 p.m. The victim and his girlfriend were randomly attacked as they left a local business. Urbalexo was ultimately identified as the suspect in the incident by DNA evidence left at the crime scene.

Urbalexo was tracked by Santa Monica Police detectives to Yuma, Arizona, where he was being detained by federal authorities for illegal entry into the United States, and brought back to California through the extradition process in June of 2013 to face charges.
