SM Fatal Hit-and-Run

A 61-year-old woman has died after she and her 32-year-old daughter were struck by a hit-and-run driver in Santa Monica early Saturday morning, police said.

A car struck the two pedestrians around 1 a.m. in the 1600 block of Ocean Avenue, just south of Seaside Terrace, as they were crossing the street, Santa Monica Police said.

The pair were not crossing the street at a crosswalk, officials said.

According to police, the vehicle fled without stopping. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a silver sports coupe, possibly a two-door Infiniti G35, with tinted windows. It will likely have damage on its right front side.

Police said they are looking at surveillance video in which a car matching that description was captured.

The mother, a Wisconsin resident, was visiting her daughter at her home in Santa Monica. The mother suffered severe head trauma and died at the hospital as a result of her injuries, police said. The daughter suffered minor injuries.

The Ocean Avenue exit off of Pacific Coast Highway was closed for a few hours Saturday morning as police investigated the incident.
