World Cup Fever Spreads to Westside

Early Thursday morning, Santa Monicans came out in numbers to watch the US face Germany in the final match of group play. Both German and American soccer fans crowded the 3rd St. Promenade's bars and restaurants to get a glimpse of the game.

The US fans were excited about the US's opportunity to advance to the next round, though they expressed some concerns about the talented German squad.

"We're gonna have to play hard, but they can do it. It would be nice to get to the knock out round, but one stage at a time."

Though Germany won 1-0, next week, both teams advance to the next round. The US will be playing Belgium on Tuesday at 1:00 PM PST.

On spectator summed up her thoughts about US soccer.

"The US plays with a lot of heart and soul and are trying to make soccer more prevalent in America. I think they are doing that."
