Wilshire Blvd closed due to "suspicious package" Delivered to Social Security Administration

12200 Wilshire Boulevard closed between Bundy and Amherst

8/9, update 5 PM: Wilshire Boulevard has been reopened.

2:43 pm: Wilshire Boulevard was closed today East and West, in the 12200 Block at approximately noon due to a suspicious package delivered to the Wlshire Bundy Plaza building, at 12121 Wilshire Blvd

Numerous firefighters and other first responders were located in front of the white Bundy plaza by 2:45 PM. About five fire engines and 35 firefighters were visible on the street. The LAPD bomb squad was called, as well as a Hazmat team, when the package appeared to be "leaking an unknown substance."

Police and firemen were not forthcoming with information except to say that a suspicious package had been found. One office worker said that his office had been told that a suspicious package had been delivered to the Social Security office and therefore the building has been evacuated at about 1:45 PM.

By 3 PM, the Fire Dept. appeared to be withdrawing and leaving the situation to the LAPD.
