Santa Monica High School Lockdown Lifted, Police Searching for Criminal at Lincoln/Pico

Students instructed not to text or call their parents "because of police investigation

An SMMUSD robocall informed parents Monday afternoon, that santa monica high school was on Lockdown as the Santa Monica Police Department searches for a Robbery suspect. The lockdown began at 1 pm and lasted for about an hour.

At 152 PM, the Lockdown was lifted, and SamoHi apparently resumed with a modified schedule: "Lunch will go until 2:05 pm; period 5, 2:10-2:40 pm, period 6, 2:49-3:16 pm," said the School Principal in an email to parents. Most SamoHi students finish the school day at 2:10 pm or 3:05 pm.

Apparently 3 men conducted an armed robbery across Pico Blvd from the school. Reportedly, the suspects arranged on Craigslist to meet a high school student with $2000 (two thousand dollars) worth of smoking equipment--"bongs." When they met him, they proceeded to pull guns and rob him of his money and his bongs.

Being an extremely liberal high school (perhaps the most liberal in California); the drug contingent at santa monica high school is outstanding in size, affluence and of course, diversity.

"All students and staff are safe at school. The SMPD suggested the lockdown due to activity outside the school. We will let you know as soon as it ends,"said the Robocall.

An e mail from the District said:

Dear Samohi parents and guardians,

You may have heard that Samohi is on lockdown right now, Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 since 1 pm.

This is true. All students are safe at school.

SMPD suggested the lockdown due to police activity in the area, outside of the school.

Students are unable to leave campus until SMDP advises us to cancel the lockdown.

We will advise you when the lockdown is lifted.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Antonio Shelton

Principal
