LASD Pursuit Ends in Fiery Malibu Crash Wednesday Morning

An innocent driver was killed in the three car collision.

11/29: Pacific Coast Highway was closed in both directions at Latigo Canyon Road Wednesday morning, after a police pursuit ended in a crash. The person who died was apparently another driver.

Authorities pursed the car for a short time before deciding to back off because the driver was behaving so erratically, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

The stolen car then crashed near Latigo Canyon Road, in a wreck that involved at least three other vehicles, video from the scene showed about 8:15 a.m.

At least one person was killed in the crash, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesperson confirmed. It was unclear if the victim had been inside or outside of one of the vehicles at the time of the crash.

Aerial video from Sky5 at KTLA news, showed emergency crews airlifting at least one more patient from the scene. That patient was later identified as the man suspected of driving the pursuit vehicle, Johnson said. His condition was not known.

At least one of the vehicles caught fire following the collision, resulting in a small brush fire.

Officials closed the highway in both directions during the emergency response and investigation.
