SWAT Team Deploys at 11th and Broadway Friday morning.

What began as a home invasion robbery at 3:30 am in the 1700 block of 5th Street, progressed to "a violent crime scene with multiple locations."

The victim, a woman in her 20's, woke up to find a man in her apartment. He attacked her, inflicting multiple injuries on the unnamed woman.

Later Friday morning neighbors reported a heavily armed Santa Monica Police SWAT team at Broadway Avenue and 11th Street in Santa Monica since 6 am Friday. They focused on one yard for an hour, then moved on, residents say.

As of 7:45 am, the streets in the intersection remained blocked to traffic. At 8:30 am, neighbors reported blood in front of the apartment building. "Apparently, they shot the guy at 12th and Broadway, and he took off running" said one local resident.

Police are still looking for the suspect, though they have called off the active search. He has a rather indistinct photo from security cameras.

SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) means a paramilitary unit of law-enforcement agencies, such as the Santa Monica Police Department.
