Spectacular fire at the Marathon Refinery in Carson Lights Up The Night

405 freeway closed in both directions, explosion of Hydrogen tanks

February 27, 2020

A spectacular fire at the marathon refinery in Carson lit up the night sky and caused a boom audible all the way to Santa Monica around 10:53 p.m. PST Tuesday night.

Fire companies from at least three cities assisted the fire company associated with Marathon oil itself. No injuries were reported from the 24 hour operation.

LA gasoline prices will almost certainly rise as a result, since California has only three or four refineries producing the state's blend.

The fire at the North side of the complex, was said to be a hydrogen fire, as hydrogen is used in the refining process.

Any possible excuse to raise gas prices will be used.
