Prior to race day, teams construct yachts from corrugated cardboard and duct tape

The Cardboard Yacht Regatta is returning to the Annenberg Community Beach House and will follow all of LA County's COVID-19 protocols.

The 2021 Regatta will be held on Saturday, August 28, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Beach House pool which will closed for recreational swimming.

Teams of all ages are invited to test their ingenuity in crafting homemade cardboard yachts and getting them across the Beach House pool in this annual race.

Prior to race day, teams construct yachts from corrugated cardboard and duct tape, and decorate them with a creative theme. Participants bring their yachts to the Beach House on race day to paddle their way across the length of the pool as spectators cheer them on. Awards are given in a variety of fun categories.

Entry fee is $20 per team. This event will follow all the county's COVID-19 protocols. Unvaccinated persons are strongly recommended to wear a mask during the event. All persons are required to wear a mask when indoors.

Regatta details are available at https://apm.activecommunities.com/santamonicarecreation/Activity_Search/84366.

The 2021 Cardboard Yacht Regatta is sponsored by Gregory Annenberg Weingarten. The Beach House, operated by the City of Santa Monica, is located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway. Enter the parking lot at Beach House Way.
