Higher Grade Masks for Employees and Reduced Size of Mega Events Ordered by LA County Health Department

With less case numbers last year this time, the state and county health departments had shut down business and prohibited gathering with non-household members

January 7, 2022 - New Health Officer Orders have been issued by the LA County Department of Public Health. They require employers to upgrade the efficacy of masks provided to employees and restrict the size of mega events, both indoors and outdoors:

Masks

Employers required to provide upgraded masks (e.g. well-fitting medical grade masks, surgical masks, or N95/KN95 respirators by January 17, 2022

Mega event attendance thresholds lowered to 500 attendees (indoor) and 5,000 (outdoor)

Mega events, performance venues, movie theaters, and entertainment venues are responsible for messaging, signage, and compliance with masking requirement.

Exception for spectators or customers who are actively eating or drinking. Strong recommendation that food and drink only be consumed in designated dining areas

Card Rooms --At card rooms, food and drink prohibited at gaming tables

Masks must be worn at all times while indoors except when actively eating or drinking. Eating and drinking permitted only in designated dining areas

By contrast, at this time last year, with less case numbers, the state government had issued a Stay-at-Home order, the County Health Department had restricted retail store capacity, closed gyms and hair salons, and closed both outdoor and indoor dining. A curfew was imposed. Gatherings with non-household members were forbidden. Masks had to be worn even when outdoors.
