Rite Aid on Wilshire Blvd to Close Store Permanently. New Trader Joes to Open in Downtown Santa Monica

Trader Joes to Open at 5th Street and Broadway in Downtown Santa Monica

On Friday, April 29th, Trader Joe's will open a new Santa Monica location on 4.29. The new store is located at 500 S Broadway.

Moments before doors open at 8am, there will be a brief ceremonial ribbon cutting. Store Captain Jose Mendez and Trader Joe's Crew Members will be on hand to welcome customers.

The 16,000 square-foot store will be the third Trader Joe's in Santa Monica. Its interior will feature artwork highlighting California beach vibes, including the 3rd Street promenade, pier, bike paths, and Route 66.

Separately, Santa Monica will lose one of it's Rite Aid locations. Rite Aid has been located at the corner of 18th Street and Wilshire Blvd for 30 years. They will close permanently on April 30th, 2022, according to a clerk who works at the store.

The company took over operation of a CVS location at 14th Street and Wilshire in 2018.

The closure is in a wave of 125 closures nationwide. The store in Woodland Hills is also closing. They cite rent and increasing crime as factors that they consider in choosing which stores to close.

Rite Aid Corporation is a drugstore chain based in Camp Hill, PA.
