Russian Missiles Strike Central Kyiv; Parks, Public Squares Blown Up in Retaliation for Crimean Bridge Bombing

Zelensky: “The air alarm does not subside throughout Ukraine. There are missiles striking. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded. Please do not leave shelters. Take care of yourself and your loved ones. Let's hold on and be strong.”

10.10.22: Russia launched its remaining inventory of medium range missiles at downtown Kyiv Monday morning. CNN's Frederik Pleitgen said there were at last 4 explosions heard. Air raid sirens went off throughout Ukraine.

Shevchenko Park in central Kyiv is "probably the city's busiest park, usually packed with people and street musicians," said Michael Luxmoore, a UK civilian reporter who lives there. Shevchenko Park now has a big crater in the middle of a children's playground.

Explosions were reported in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Dnipro, Lviv, Ternopil, said the Kyiv Independent.

At least five explosions were heard in central Kyiv in the morning on Oct. 10. "Unfortunately, there are wounded and killed in several places," Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.

"Kyiv is bombarded nonstop. All over town. The city is hit in multiple areas," tweeted Aleksei Sorokin, a local resident. "This is very scary."

Bombing central areas of Kyiv is something Putin's army had refrained from doing until now.

"The very center of Kyiv was hit, right beside Shevchenko Park. Closest strike to the heart of Kyiv and the government quarter yet, and the first against it in many weeks. The missile struck a major intersection during morning rush hour. State Emergency spox says dead + wounded." tweeted @christopherJM, an American reporter working in Kyiv for the Financial Times.

At Shevchecko University, the blast wave from one missile, caused a coed's hair to flop over onto her face, as she screamed. She had been filming with her iphone while running to an air raid shelter. Kyiv and other major cities have not been hit in months.
