"A suspect is in police custody following an altercation this evening on Colorado Avenue near 4th Street," the SMDP posted to Facebook. "The fight between two subjects (possibly 3) resulted in minor injuries to the suspect under arrest as well as knife wounds to a dog. The suspect will be booked for battery, brandishing a weapon, and potentially other charges once surveillance video is obtained."

"The dog was transported by SMPD Animal Control Officers to a local veterinarian and will be treated for its injuries."
