The SMPD now says the suspect ran away from the party, and they are searching for him.

Two teenage girls were shot during a beach party at Ocean Avenue and Barnard Way in Santa Monica, report NBC news and other local news affiliates. The incident took place Friday evening, 7/7/23. It was initially announced that police had a suspect in custody. The SMPD now says the suspect ran away from the party, and they are searching for him.

Santa Monica Police said Saturday morning that the victims were two teenage girls, age 14 and 17. Both were shot in the legs while attending a beach party on Santa Monica beach. Both were treated and released, and neither suffered life threatening injuries in the incident.

This is the area around the Santa Monica Shores, two towers that house about 3000 people next to the beach, at the South end of Santa Monica's Main street. The area is almost 2 miles South of the Santa Monica Pier, usually the locus of crime in Santa Monica.

This is breaking news, more details to follow.
