George Gascon, Current Los Angeles County District Attorney, Declines to Participate in Candidate Debate for His Position

The event is sponsored by the Association for LA Deputy Sheriffs, LA Professional Peace Officers Association, and the Association of Deputy District Attorneys

LOS ANGELES (10/6/23) – Law enforcement labor partners sponsoring the upcoming Los Angeles District Attorney Candidate Forum have been informed that current Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón will not be participating. The decision comes without any provided reason or explanation.

The Candidate forum is sponsored by several significant law enforcement associations – including the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs (ALADS), the Los Angeles Professional Peace Officers Association (PPOA), and the Association of Deputy District Attorneys (ADDA) which collectively represent thousands of employees working either directly or jointly with D.A. Gascón's office. The intent behind the event is to promote transparency, address pressing concerns, and allow candidates to communicate their vision and plans for the future of the office.

"Our goal with this forum is to have an open and transparent discussion about the important issues facing the DA's office," said ALADS President Richard Pippin. "Candidates running for the office should be prepared to outline their priorities if elected, and explain to the public how they intend to protect and ensure the public safety of the citizens of Los Angeles County. Accountability and communicating a vision for public safety are essential as the people of L.A. decide who they want leading the office into the future."

Key issues likely to be addressed at the forum include gang violence, repeat offenders, supporting victims of crime, and the DA's approach to bail and sentencing policies.

The sponsoring law enforcement groups, including ALADS, PPOA, ADDA, the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL), the Long Beach Police Officers Association, and the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), all urge Mr. Gascón to reconsider his decision as active participation in such forums is essential for maintaining public trust and fostering open communication.
