Main Street in Santa Monica was Closed Due to a Structure Fire

Reported at 6:58 am, the fire was out by 7:23 am

UPDATED 5:00 pm 1.31.24

The Santa Monica Fire Department says a structure fire was reported by multiple callers at 6:58 am on Wednesday morning. The fire was on the first floor of 2925 Main Street, a two-story commercial building. SMFD responded with a "full assignment," which consists of 4 engines, one truck company, and a battalion chief. Engine 2 arrives on the scene within 4 minutes. Firemen made a forced entry into the first floor business, "Free People Clothing Company," and extinguished the fire by 7:23. Because of the early hour, the building was unoccupied and no injuries from crews were reported.

Emergency vehicles marked an area of sudden response on Main Street between Ashland and Hill. "I usually take that street to get my daughter to school and there's like 20 firetrucks, it looks like a Christmas tree lit up," said one local mom. The street was closed and police were redirecting traffic.

Main Street was still closed at 9:30 am PST.

The fire is currently being investigated for cause and origin by SMFD investigators.
