Santa Monica Place welcomes visitors and shoppers to ring in the Year of the Dragon with its free Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, February 17, 2024, hosted by comedian Paul "PK" Kim.
Santa Monica Place's annual Lunar New Year programming returns this year with traditional Chinese lion dance performances, balloon and dough artists and the enchanting cherry blossom Wishing Trees where well-wishers will hang their hopes for prosperity and renewal in the new year. Overhead red and gold lanterns will illuminate Center Plaza and red envelopes with special deals from participating shops and restaurants including Nordstrom, Elie Tahari, BOSS, Coach, Pandora and more will be provided to those in attendance. Wishing Trees, overhead lanterns and limited-time red envelope offers are available now through February 21.
Prior to the celebration, UCLA's ACA Lion Dance group will join Cayton Children's Museum on February 10 for an exciting performance and lively parade throughout the museum. Museumgoers can also enjoy hands-on activities such as lion puppet making, lantern decorating and Chinese pellet drum crafting. Also on February 10, Chef May Hennemann will be teaching a Lunar New Year cooking class at The Gourmandise School. Guests will learn how to create steamed white fish, glazed Chinese broccoli, chicken and chive potstickers with a celebratory cocktail and almond cookies for dessert.
