Bay Cities Italian Deli Closure
The beloved Bay Cities Italian Deli and Bakery, known for its Godmother sandwich, was shut down on May 27, 2025, due to health code violations involving a "vermin infestation." The deli says it is responding to the Health Department's concerns, and that the 70 year old deli will soon reopen.
Coyote Sightings Surge Post-Palisades Fire
Increased coyote encounters, linked to displacement from the Palisades Fire, were reported on May 16 and 17, 2025. The City of Santa Monica updated its coyote safety guidelines, particularly noting sightings north of Montana Avenue. With the fire's aftermath still relevant, this issue likely remains a concern, especially during coyote denning season (February–June).
SaMo Pride Events
Santa Monica is hosting multiple Pride events in June 2025, including a ticketed dance party at the pier on June 1 to support 2025 wildfire victims and the Santa Monica Queer Prom, as well as a family-friendly Pride event on June 21 at the Santa Monica Pier with drag storytelling and a parade.
