Dodgers Outlast Blue Jays 6-5 in 18-Inning Epic to Take 2-1 World Series Lead

Freddie Freeman delivered the game-winning blast in the top of the 18th, crushing a 412-foot solo home run completely out of Dodger Stadium over the right-field pavilion off Yankees reliever Jake Cousins

October 28, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in 18 innings early Tuesday morning at Dodger Stadium, taking a 2-1 lead in the 2025 World Series.

The game, lasting 6 hours and 42 minutes and ending at 3:47 a.m. ET, tied the record for the longest World Series game by innings, matching the 18-inning Game 3 of the 2018 World Series between the Dodgers and Red Sox.Freddie Freeman sealed the victory with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 18th, crushing a 412-foot shot over the center-field wall off Blue Jays reliever Brendon Little. The homer, Freeman’s second career walk-off in the World Series, exited Dodger Stadium entirely, landing on the concourse beyond the outfield pavilion—the first World Series home run to do so since the stadium’s 1962 opening.

The game was a back-and-forth affair. Teoscar Hernández and Shohei Ohtani hit solo home runs to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. Toronto surged ahead 4-2 in the fourth with a three-run homer by Alejandro Kirk and a sacrifice fly by Andrés Giménez. Ohtani’s RBI double and Freeman’s single tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth. Bo Bichette’s single gave the Blue Jays a 5-4 lead in the seventh, but Ohtani’s second homer of the night knotted it at 5-5 in the bottom half.

Neither team scored again until Freeman’s decisive blast. Both teams pushed their bullpens to the limit. The Dodgers used 10 pitchers, with rookie Will Klein throwing four scoreless innings, while the Blue Jays used nine, including 4⅔ scoreless frames from Eric Lauer.

A total of 19 pitchers combined for 576 pitches, with 32 hits, 12 walks, and 39 strikeouts recorded. The Dodgers stranded 18 runners, the Blue Jays 15. Extra-inning rules placed a runner on second starting in the 10th, but neither side capitalized until the 18th.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, two days removed from a 105-pitch complete game in Game 2, warmed up in the Dodgers’ bullpen, underscoring the desperation. Shohei Ohtani set a postseason record by reaching base nine times, including two home runs, two doubles, and five walks (four intentional).Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday at 8:09 p.m. ET at Dodger Stadium, with Shane Bieber starting for the Blue Jays against Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers.
