Active Shooter Incident Reported at Temple Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan

March 12, 2026 – Authorities are responding to an ongoing security incident at Temple Israel, a major Reform Jewish congregation in West Bloomfield Township, following reports of a vehicle deliberately crashing into the building, subsequent gunfire, and a fire.According to initial police statements and local reports, an individual intentionally drove a vehicle into the synagogue structure. The crash caused the vehicle to catch fire, with smoke visible billowing from the building. Shots were fired in the aftermath, leading law enforcement to classify the situation as an active shooter event.

Multiple agencies, including Oakland County Sheriff's deputies, West Bloomfield police, Farmington Hills police, and FBI personnel, are on scene. Federal agents are assisting local partners as the incident unfolds, per updates from federal sources.
