Comparing My Views to Scott Wiener's, by David Ganezer, Republican Candidate for California's 11th Congressional District
As the only Republican running for Nancy Pelosi's former seat, voters deserve to know exactly how my views differ from the leading Democratic candidate, State Senator Scott Wiener. Here is a clear, side-by-side comparison on the issues that matter most to San Francisco residents:Housing
Scott Wiener has authored several major bills (SB 35, SB 423, SB 79) designed to force more housing development by overriding local zoning. While we both want more housing, I believe we must cut excessive red tape and regulation in a smarter way that actually brings down costs for working families, teachers, and middle-class residents - not just add more mandates that drive prices higher.Homelessness and Addiction
San Francisco spends between $100,000 and $300,000 per homeless person per year when police and fire costs are included. Yet the tents and fentanyl crisis remain. Senator Wiener has generally favored expanding services and harm reduction approaches. I believe we must shift to mandatory treatment for severe addiction and mental illness, paired with real accountability. Compassion without results is not compassion.Public Safety and Crime
Scott Wiener has supported criminal justice reforms that critics say contributed to increased retail theft and street disorder. I believe we need to restore balance - cracking down on organized theft, open drug dealing, and fentanyl trafficking while still treating people humanely.Sex Offender Registry (SB 145)
Senator Wiener authored SB 145, which gave judges more discretion regarding sex offender registration for certain acts involving 14–17 year olds. I believe this legislation sent the wrong message and weakened protections for minors. Child safety must be a top priority.Tech Economy
San Francisco's prosperity depends on technology and innovation. While Wiener supports certain pro-density policies, he has also backed higher taxes on the wealthy and regulations that contribute to the sense of hostility toward business. I want to stop driving "tech bros," startups, and established companies out of the city. We need the tax base they provide to fund essential services.Government Accountability
I support term limits and a full ban on stock trading by members of Congress and their immediate families. After nearly 40 years of one-party rule and questions surrounding the Pelosi family's investment success, San Francisco needs real accountability, not more of the same political machine. My Core Message
I am a social moderate. I support gay marriage and abortion rights. But I also believe government should focus on making life easier, not harder, for the people of San Francisco.Scott Wiener is intelligent and hardworking. However, after more than a decade in elected office, his record reflects continuity with the same progressive policies that have left too many San Franciscans struggling with unaffordable housing, unsafe streets, and visible disorder.
This election is not about left versus right. It is about results versus rhetoric. San Francisco voters deserve a genuine choice - and a representative who will fight to make life easier for the people who actually live here.
