Los Angeles Police Arrests Columbian Transnational Theft Group in California's Biggest "Sanctuary City."

This announcement follows other recent LAPD actions against similar South American theft groups, including the May 4 arrest of a suspect linked to approximately 25 burglaries

LA - Seven suspects, all Colombian nationals, were charged Wednesday 5/20/26 with felonies in connection with a series of organized residential burglaries across Los Angeles County, authorities announced at a multi-agency press conference.

Authorities detailed the arrests, which targeted members of a South American theft group responsible for dozens of home break-ins, particularly in the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas.

The suspects face charges including first-degree residential burglary and conspiracy. Authorities linked them to at least 20 burglaries, where thieves stole cash, jewelry, luxury handbags, watches, and other high-value items. In one case, they allegedly used advanced tactics such as Wi-Fi jammers, hidden cameras disguised as everyday objects, and surveillance of victims' social media to plan attacks.

Key Incidents and Arrests

On May 1, 2026, three suspects - Christopher Sanchez, Owen Rivera-Chacon, and Edisson Fabian Boyaca - were charged in connection with a residential burglary in Santa Clarita. Ventura County deputies tracked the group into Los Angeles County, leading to a coordinated freeway stop. Sanchez was arrested after a vehicle stop, while Rivera-Chacon fled on foot and was later found in a dry streambed.

The operation involved collaboration among the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, LAPD, Ventura County Sheriff's Office, Burbank Police Department, and other agencies.

Sheriff Luna confirmed all seven arrested individuals were Colombian nationals and emphasized the sophisticated, transnational nature of these crews, often referred to as part of broader "burglary tourism" patterns.

Stolen property was recovered during the investigation, and authorities said the probe is ongoing with potential for additional arrests and charges. The suspects were booked on felony charges with bail set accordingly.

This announcement follows other recent LAPD actions against similar South American theft groups, including the May 4 arrest of a suspect linked to approximately 25 burglaries in areas like Beverlywood and the San Fernando Valley. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, Sheriff Robert Luna, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, and Ventura County Sheriff Jim Fryhoff spoke at the press conference.
