Openly Gay State Sen. Scott Wiener Reports Harassment at San Francisco Trans March and Local Bar

San Francisco's leading candidate for Congress, reports that he was physically intimidated and screamed at as he walked through Dolores Park.

SAN FRANCISCO — California State Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) said he was harassed and physically intimidated during two separate incidents in San Francisco this week, including while attempting to attend the annual Trans March.

San Francisco's leading candidate for Congress, reports that he was physically intimidated and screamed at as he walked through Dolores Park. This over his alleged lack of support for Gaza.

In a statement released Saturday, Wiener described arriving at Dolores Park on Friday evening for a trans-led Pride Shabbat service connected to the Trans March, an event he has participated in annually since its start in 2004. According to Wiener, a group of individuals began screaming at him, surrounded him, and engaged in verbal and physical harassment, including physical contact. He said the aggression made it impossible for him to remain safely in the park, marking the first time in 22 years he did not participate in the march.

Wiener noted the harassers made statements referencing his “Israeli handlers” and other claims he described as inaccurate and extreme. He has long supported transgender rights legislation and community events.

The incident follows a separate event on Wednesday night at a Mission District bar where Wiener was watching a World Cup game. He reported that a man accosted him and young women staffers, cornering them and screaming abuse. The man was ejected by bar employees but remained outside, shouting Wiener’s name and pounding on the building. Wiener identified the individual as the same person who stalked him on a plane and in an airport in December 2023, yelling about his “tainted bloodline.”

Wiener emphasized that he supports democratic rights to disagree, oppose, or protest but drew a line at harassment and physical intimidation. “We’re living in a time when violence is all too often threatened or used against people in public life,” he stated. “In San Francisco, we’re better than that.”

Wiener, who represents San Francisco and parts of northern San Mateo County, chairs the Senate Budget Committee and has been a vocal advocate for LGBTQ+ issues, housing policy, and other progressive priorities. He is currently running for Congress in the upcoming election.

No arrests or official police reports were detailed in his statement. The Trans March is part of San Francisco’s annual Pride festivities.

Here is a factual summary of what was reported as yelled at Senator Scott Wiener while he was surrounded and followed:“It sucks because you’ve been wonderful for trans people, and you’ve been terrible on Gaza.”

“You do not belong here anymore, Scott. And it breaks my fucking heart.”

Repeated chants and shouts of “Fuck you!” and “Fuck Scott Wiener!”

Accusations of supporting “genocide” or being a “genocidal-supporting center right shill.”

Other reported curses, obscene gestures, and demands that he leave.

The videographer and others followed Wiener as he walked away through the park, with the confrontation captured in shaky handheld footage showing a group surrounding him. Wiener has described physical contact and aggression making it unsafe for him to stay.
