Culver City Bus Driver Shot and Killed by Passenger in Mar Vista Thursday

A Culver CityBus driver was shot and killed by a passenger in Mar Vista on Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2026.

Los Angeles police said the shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. during a verbal dispute on the bus. LAPD Capt. Eric Eppolito told NBC Los Angeles the passenger appeared intoxicated and that the argument was over the bus going the wrong direction. The passenger then shot the driver. Accounts place the scene near Centinela Avenue, with NBC citing Mitchell and Centinela and ABC7 and other reports citing Centinela and Washington Boulevard.

The driver, a man in his 40s, was taken to a hospital and died. His name has not been released. Police said the suspect, last seen in a white shirt, left the bus, took a bicycle from the front rack, and fled on the bike or on foot. No weapon was recovered at the scene, and he was still outstanding as of Thursday evening. LAPD said it was reviewing video and witness statements.
