On April 14, 2019 Santa Monica High School placed second in the 22nd Annual National Ocean Science Bowl Finals. The finals carried the theme "Observe the Ocean; Secure the Future" in Washington DC. The students participated in field trips and lectures with other teams from 33 states. The competition consisted of team challenge questions, buzzer segments, and science expert briefings.
