Bristol Old Vic in association with Handspring Puppet Company will present
The Midsummer Night's Dream at The Broad Stage. The two companies previously collaborated on the highly acclaimed and Tony-Award winning War Horse that played at the Ahmanson Theatre a few years ago.
Adapted from the Shakespearean play, the show interweaves the lives of
lovers, actors, friends, foes, and fairies. The themes revolve around love,
transformation and survival in a place where the mystical presence of fairies
mixing up superstition and magic lore in the routines of a community living
at the edge of a forest.
The production is visually stunning, blending live actors, puppets and choreography that enlivens everyday inanimate objects. The puppetry involves a huge range of ground-breaking techniques and variety of creations from the smallest mechanical creatures to the huge god-like masks and limbs that represent Oberon and Titania, King and Queen of the Fairies.
The show runs April 3 -19, with evenings at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2:00 p.m. For more information, please visit http://www.TheBroadStage.com
