Hotel De la Ville, the newest 5 star hotel in Europe, serves up a delight
Rome, Italy- 24 June, 2019: Last month saw the very anticipated unveiling of Europes' newest 5 star hotel, the Hotel de la Ville in top of the Spanish steps in the City of Love Rome, Italy. The launch was hugely successful and the hotel has been sold out for the next few months. I had the great pleasure of staying there for several days and enjoying all of what it has to offer, including it's incredible dining options.
Rome is a city with unlimited food opportunities so it would take a lot for you to not leave your hotel once the hunger cravings unfold. Look no further, Hotel de la Ville has you covered! With numerous eating venues within the hotel itself, you will have an array of options left at your disposal.
Lets start with the gorgeous terrace lounge. Leave the worries of the day behind as you ascend to Cielo Bar. Step out onto the glamorous rooftop terrace and breathe deeply, looking out at the staggering skyline of the Eternal City unfolding before you.
During the day, sample small plates and sensational views. But as the light fades and the flames of the lanterns flicker, settle in for Aperitivo hour. An inspired marriage of Asian dim sum and Italian flavours, the menu showcases a vibrant array of dishes. Try dim sum dumplings filled with savoury spices and traditional roman flavours, a perfect combination.
Later, order another glass of wine or a theatrical cocktail and dance high above the city streets in sleek surrounds as the DJ plays. The night is yours.
Lets move on to another gorgeous bar in the Hotel de la Ville. Alluring and inviting, Julep Herbal & Vermouth Bar is an exquisite cocktail bar with a menu of individual, inventive concoctions and infusions inspired by the 13th-century spice route that began in Venice and wound its way across the continent.
Step within its elegant surrounds and enjoy a personalized serve fashioned from a carefully curated collection of herbal liqueurs and wines. Explore the chequerboard menu of herbs, spices, and spirits on display to discover your perfect cocktail, crafted to your specific taste profile, and experience a true taste of the bespoke.
Now for the hotel's grand dining experience! Elegant and refined, the Mosaico brings the extraordinary cuisine of Michelin-starred Chef Fulvio Pierangelini to the heart of the Eternal City, moments from the 18th-century splendour of the Spanish Steps.
Drawing deeply from Rome itself, dishes are crafted using local, seasonal produce and inspired by the myriad cultures that made up the Roman Empire, expertly bringing together Italian cuisine with culinary flourishes from Africa, the Middle East, and across Europe. A comprehensive wine list provides the perfect accompaniment, with exceptional bottles sourced from the world's leading wine estates.
I had the great pleasure of dining at the Mosaico with hotel PR manager Debbie Simpson to sample the food offerings and talk about the newly opened hotel.
We started with a Spritz Aperisol in the patio and made out way to the main dining hall. My dinner guest had opted for a vegan dining experience, so it was great to observe the Raw and vegan options available at the establishment.
I ordered my favourite drink which is a Kir Royal and the waiter immediately bought me their house version of this classic drink.
We started with Cestino di Pani e Focacce dal Mondo- freshly baked breads and Foccacio served with creamy butter and Italian olive oil. Our first order was for Crudites, Maionese Vegana alla Curcuma- which is vegetables with a decadent vegan mayo.
Next we had Verdura di Stagione con Aglio, Olio e Pepperoncino- Seasonal vegetables with chilli, garlic and extra virgin olive oil. Next came some delicious appetizers like Gamberetti Fritti- deep fried Prawns, Polpettine di Melanzane e ceci alla Menta- Eggplant, chickpeas and mint dumplings and Carciofi, Carciofi, Carciofi ;Crudi, alla Brace, a la Barigole- Artichokes: raw, flame roasted, "Barigole" style.
For my main course I had Spigola di Orbetello in Crosta di Pane- Oven baked Orbetello's Seabass in a bread crust. The perfect accompaniment for this was also served which was Gnocchi al Basilico e Pecorino Romano – Potato gnocchi with basil and Roman pecorino cheese.
My guest had Spaghettoni con Pomodoro infornati e Ricotta Salata- Oven baked Spaghettoni pasta with tomatoes and salted ricotta cheese and Peperoni Cotti al Forno con erbe Aromatiche- Oven baked peppers with aromatic herbs.
For something sweet, we opted for Semifreddo alle Arachidi di Maremma, salsa ed Infuso al Cioccolato- Peanut semifreddo served with chocolate infusion and sauce. I had some Forest Berry tea to finish off an incredible dining experience.
We spoke about Italian and global politics, about spirituality, Rome and the future of Italy. I came away very informed and optimistic about the future at the end of it. I was able to meet and thank the Chef in person for our wonderful meal and he seemed content with himself.
Moving to other dining options, a stylish neighbourhood dining destination, Da Sistina effortlessly blends classic Italian cuisine with an elegant, sophisticated ambience. Whether you're looking to start your day with a quick espresso and a pastry, or linger over a long lunch with friends, Da Sistina is a warm and inviting space inspired by traditional Roman trattoria.
