4th Suicide in a Year from Parking Garages in Downtown Santa Monica

Woman finds a body behind parking structure two on Saturday.

We're not really sure what it is about Santa Monica parking garages, but like the Golden Gate Bridge, they have become magnets for suicidal people recently. Maybe it's the fact that you can see the Pacific Ocean from the top floor, and watch the sunrise. And in a handful of cases, become overwhelmed by suicidal ideation.

Police were called to investigate a dead body found behind Parking Structure 2 on Saturday morning. A woman discovered the body of a man and called police.

The Coroners office identified the dead man has Brad Chapman Bolton, 49, of Los Angeles. They said that there were no signs of foul play, indicating that Bolton took his own life.

This is the 4th suicide in a year from Santa Monica parking structures. Three other suicides that occurred by jumping from other Santa Monica parking structures include a man who jumped off parking structure 3 in April 2019; a woman who jumped from Parking Structure 4 in December 2018, and a man who jumped off Parking Structure 4 in September 2018.
