Lincoln Middle School Theatre Presents Disney's the Lion King Opening Friday, Jan. 24
Lincoln Middle School Theatre presents Disney's The Lion King Jr. this year on Jan 24-26. Monica Ciociola writes:
"I'm a parent volunteer in charge of the marketing. I attended a rehearsal this week and was completely blown away by the show's production, costumes, sets . . . everything!! I think there is a great story to be told here.
1. Inclusive Growth Environment For Kids -- Theatre 31 Artistic director Chad Scheppner runs the program for Lincoln Middle School and his philosophy is to "create fun, non-competitive performing arts classes" for as many kids as possible. To that end, the show includes 80 kids (!!) on stage and another 20 behind the scenes, and there are TWO main casts to give twice as many kids a shot at a leading role. The program is such an amazing growth, learning, confidence boosting and bonding opportunity for the kids!!
"2. Incredible Parent Volunteers -- Chad has wanted to do The Lion King at Lincoln for years but knew he needed a specific parent volunteer to do the costumes, Krista Daidone. Even though Krista's child is now at Samohi, she finally said "yes," and that's why Lincoln has undertaken this incredibly ambitious production.
"With each of the 80 students having between 2 and 5 costume changes, she has created hundreds of the most remarkable and unique handmade costumes with vibrant colors, diverse textures, eye-popping designs. You really have to see them to believe them! There's another parent whose kids have long graduated who does a masterful job with the sets every year and is now working on the animal puppets."
