LAs' Indoor Bars and Restaurants Closed for Independence Day Weekend

In an attempt to boost restaurants on Santa Monica's Main Street, City Services has installed K Rails, replacing parking with outdoor dining spaces.

Today Governor Gavin Newsom ordered all restaurants, museums, zoos, cardrooms, theaters, and wineries in LA County to stop indoor operations for at least 3 weeks, writes LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn.

"This joins a similar announcement this past Sunday closing LA County bars. LA County beaches will also be closing for the holiday weekend," Hahn writes.

"All of these closures are for the same reason: Our cases are simply too high and our hospitalization rate is increasing exponentially. This chart from our Health Services Director Dr. Ghaly shows the risk we run in overwhelming our hospital system and running out of ICU beds if we do not change our course immediately." she writes.

The City of Santa Monica send out the following tweet: “COVID-19 Santa Monica Update 7.1.2020. County requires closure of indoor, on-site dining and some indoor activities due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. Details santamonica.gov/coronavirus."

The City of Big Bear Lake postponed their July 4 fireworks, "in response to the recent escalation of the COVID-19 threat in Southern California," said a spokesman. Big Bear Lake had planned to go forward with the annual display over the lake.

"The fireworks show will be rescheduled for later this summer or fall if / when the COVID-19 threat has subsided and it is again possible to present this great annual Big Bear tradition in a safe manner," the spokesman said.
