Traffic Collision at Pico and Stewart Tuesday Morning Kills a Female Pedestrian.

SMPD Reports that a woman was killed after being struck by a private vehicle.

Tuesday morning at about 8:00 a.m., the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) responded to a radio call for service regarding a traffic collision involving a female pedestrian and vehicle at Pico Blvd and Stewart Avenue.

When officers arrived, they discovered a pedestrian in the roadway suffering from severe head trauma. The involved vehicle along with the driver was on scene when officers arrived. Officers rendered immediate medical aid to the pedestrian. Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics responded to provide additional medical treatment. Unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to her injuries as she was being transported to a local hospital. At this time pending notifications and an investigation, the female's identity will not be released.

SMPD's Major Accident Response Team responded to the collision to investigate. A preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle traveling southbound along Stewart Avenue struck the pedestrian while making an eastbound turn onto Pico Blvd. The pedestrian was struck as she was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection. The driver is cooperating with the investigation and there are no preliminary indications the driver was impaired.

The investigation is ongoing, and Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area near the time of the collision.
